MEET ME THROUGH MY ART
An Exhibit at deCordova Museum & Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA
An intergenerational project between 4th grade students at Solomon Schecter Day School and adults living in a memory care program. Started with a lesson about Alzheimer's, personhood and memory loss with the kids. Some children shared they knew people, such as grandparents affected by the condition.
Art exchanges, art lunches, art making sessions, and art conversations between students and adults with memory loss followed. The project culminated in an art exhibit and celebration for friends and family at deCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA.
Re-Imagining Dementia: Empathy in action
Fresh, new moments of connection opened perception and mitigated fears that children had. As kids came to know adults with Alzheimer's disease personally,
new relationships formed and new understandings developed. Meet Me Through
My Art gave kids a chance to see the whole person beyond a diagnosis of dementia. The experience was de-stigmatizing, uplifting and unifying for all....
