CAPE ANN MUSEUM PROGRAM PARTICIPANT REFLECTIONS
MUSEUM STAFF
"We had another wonder- filled visit. Conversation was off and running...Our souls were soothed and our minds tuned up in the warmth of camaraderie." Pippy G, Cape Ann Museum Guide
This is an innovative, vitally needed approach to bringing meaning to the lives of many
people who may feel they are losing that meaning and their own identities."
Tom Halsted, Cape Ann Museum Guide
"Being at a Cape Ann Museum CAM Connections session was a life-changing experience."
Kathleen McLaughlin, Associate Professor of Education, Endicott College
"It was remarkable how present the residents from our nursing home were, for the moments
they were there with the art. They sat quietly, listened to and heard each other, were thoughtful
in their responses. Never bored, not distracted and they were totally present and involved in the moment. It has had a huge impact. Nothing compares to the richness of this program and nothing has reached the high level and quality of this experience." Linda Koby, Golden Living Activity Director
"I really was taken with how exposing seniors to several visits with the portraits on site and
then at the museum generated noticeable recall and deeper insights when able to view the
larger pieces. Such as lace details in paintings, remembrances of older relatives creating
pieces by crocheting cotton; fur, satin. Mary recalled Victorian practice of wearing black satin
to balls during mourning period and noted time of Payne painting would have been the
mourning period for Queen Victoria’s father; some noticed the “license” taken by Hersey
with the background objects in Ellie after discussing how artists can have a freedom similar
to poetic license (this resonated with Mary, the poet) Elaine Ohlson. Cape Ann Museum Guide
